Skopje Stone Bridge
Built between 1451 and 1469, it stands on older Roman, Christian, and medieval foundations from the time when Stefan Dušan was crowned and resided in Skopje.
It is traditionally linked to Sultan Mehmed II. In 1689, after the failed Karposh Uprising, the revolutionary Karposh was executed on the bridge.
In 1944, retreating fascist German forces attempted to destroy it. But Macedonian Partisan resistance and local citizens prevented its demolition. Today, the bridge stands as a lasting symbol of Skopje’s endurance and history.
